CHAT - Choctaw high Advisory Teams

Choctaw High School partners with EOC Technology Center, in a nationally recognized program called “High Schools That Work”. A vital component of this program is the “School to Work” initiative. One of the main purposes of this program is to integrate career and academic planning into the students’ school life. Another goal of the “High Schools That Work” program is to involve parents in the enrollment process. Since it is impossible for one counselor to meet with every student and his/her parents, “teacher/student advisory groups” were developed. Students are assigned to groups of 18-20 student and a teacher/advisor meets individually with each student and their parents.  A pivotal part of the career plan is the "Six-year Plan of Study", which begins when a student is in the ninth grade as part of theFreshmen Transition program.

During the freshman year, students are given the opportunity to choose a specific career Academy for their C.H.A.T. program assignment. The seven career Academies are Human Services, Engineering and Technology, Business, Fine Arts/Communication, Natural Science, Health & Medical, and Military Service. The focus of the program is to provide guidance and information to students about specific career interests and provide enhanced learning experiences within that career field. The Academy activities will include field trips, career fairs, speakers, mentors, seminars, assemblies, and opportunities for internships.
