Contract for Code of Behavior for bus riders
BUS REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS:
1. Be on time at the bus stop. Avoid running to catch the bus, as you may slip and fall under the bus. Stay clear of the roadway to avoid being hit by passing cars. Respect people and their property while waiting.
2. Wait for the bus to come to a complete halt before trying to board. If you must cross a road wait for your driver to signal you across. ALWAYS CROSS AT LEAST 10 FEET IN FRONT OF THE BUS.
3. The practice of saving seats for students getting on at other stops will not be allowed.
4. After boarding the bus, remain seated until the bus reaches your designated stop. DO NOT ASK TO BE LET OFF AT OTHER PLACES WITHOUT PROPER SCHOOL AUTHORIZATION.
5. Use handrails when getting on or off the bus, particularly when the weather is wet or icy, as they can be very slippery.
6. Treat bus equipment as you would the furniture in your home. Any damage to bus seats, windows, etc., must be paid by student/students responsible for the damage.
7. Keep the aisles clear of all items at all times. If you must carry personal items on the bus with you, hold them in your lap or store them under the seat. Assist in keeping the bus clean.
8. Always keep hands, head or other parts of your body inside the bus.
9. Don't be loud or boisterous on the bus. Excessive noise can distract the driver and could result in an accident.
10. There must be absolute quiet at all railroad crossings. The driver stops at railroad crossings to listen for oncoming trains; your talking could drown out all warning signals.
11. Do not throw paper or other objects out bus windows.
12. There must be no food or drink on the bus.
13. There is to be no improper language, excessive noise or use of tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
14. You must obey these rules and regulations. Failure to do so may result in suspension of BUS RIDING PRIVILEGES.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF BUS DRIVERS, PRINCIPALS AND PARENTS:
1. The school bus is considered an extension of the classroom. The building principal has the ultimate authority and responsibility for the discipline of students riding buses. A bus driver is required to maintain order on his/her bus. If an incident occurs on the bus, a School Bus Conduct Report is submitted to the building principal's office for disciplinary action and then forwarded to the Transportation Office. The disciplinary action taken by the building principal will depend on the severity of the offense. HOWEVER, THE FOURTH OFFENSE USUALLY CAUSES THE STUDENT TO BE REMOVED FROM THE BUS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
2. It is the responsibility of the bus driver to discuss this document with students and to be sure each student and his/her parent(s) sign and receive a copy of it.
3. It is the parent's responsibility to discuss with the child the provisions of this Contract for Code of Behavior and to support the school administration.
4. The parent must assume responsibility, for the behavior of the child while riding the bus. IF PERMISSION TO RIDE THE BUS IS REVOKED, THE PARENT MUST PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL FOR HIS/HER CHILD UNTIL SUCH TIME AS REINSTATEMENT MAY BE MADE.
5. Any complaints by drivers or parents should be reported promptly to the Transportation Department (769-9891).
PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN THE TOP TWO (2) COPIES OF THIS CONTRACT TO THE BUS DRIVER
Retain bottom copy for your records. Failure to sign and return will result in suspension of riding privileges until the contract is received by the Department.
