Choctaw Elementary School
Media Center History
Choctaw Elementary School's Media Center was built in 1982 and named in honor of Lola Williams, a former principal. Located in a separate building east of the school, the Media Center has a collection of approximately 16,000 items including books, audiovisual materials, and equipment. The Media Center provides services for the 378 students, pre-K through grade 6, and 50 staff housed at CE, as well as the 107 gifted and talented students in the SEARCH program.
The Patchwork Panorama on the ceiling, which began in 1994-95 with grant money from the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools Foundation, continues to grow. Each year four student entries, which depict something special that happened that year, are added to our "ceiling quilt." A mural, located on the north wall, was painted by two of our parents in 1999. It features favorite book characters of CE students and staff.
