BAR CODES
Faculty and students attending Choctaw Elementary
School are assigned bar code numbers to facilitate the checking in and out of
materials. Faculty and students are
responsible for all items checked out with their bar code number.
Library books that need to be repaired should be
returned to the Media Center as soon as the damage is noticed.
Book repair should only be done by Media Center personnel.
CIRCULATION
All students are encouraged to check out books on a
regular basis. Students in pre-K
through 1st grade may check out one book at a time.
Students in grades 2 through 6 may check out two books at a time.
All books are due one week from the date they are checked out.
However, books may be renewed if students are not finished reading them.
Students may not check out books if they have any overdue books.
FINES
We do not charge fines
for overdue books.
HOURS
The
Media Center is open to students Monday-Friday from 8:30-3:30.
LOST BOOKS
In the event that a book is lost, the borrower will
be expected to pay the replacement cost plus $1.00 for processing. Should the
book be found after payment of the replacement fee, the money will be returned
to the borrower. A receipt will be given for every lost book payment.
ORIENTATION
Media Center orientation lessons will be held
during the second full week of school. Reading
Counts orientation will be held the following week.
Each teacher will receive four media center passes
at the beginning of each year. Students
must have one of those passes when they come to the media center by themselves.
One pass per student, please.
We
maintain a small collection of magazines for students to read and use for
research. Magazines may not be checked out.
Students in grades 1 through 6 will participate in
the Reading Counts program. Each
teacher sets their own requirements as to how many points students in their
classroom must achieve throughout the year.
A list of Reading Counts books is available in the
Media Center, on the Choctaw Elementary website, and at the Choctaw Library
Students will receive a certificate and ribbons for the points they have earned at each 9-weeks awards assembly. Point levels are 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1,000. Additional awards are given at the end of the year awards assemblies.
