A Message from
the Principal. . .
Dear Choctaw Elementary Parents,
Welcome to Choctaw Elementary. Our focus is on learning! Our
staff is committed to the purpose of providing a safe and nurturing environment
that will ensure opportunities for your child's success.
Student achievement and high expectations are synonymous. Our
curriculum is based upon the state of Oklahoma's Priority Academic Student
Skills (PASS). You may locate these skills on the State Department of
Education website, www.sde.state.ok.us.
Our state report card and student achievement test scores have always reflected
the high expectations we have for student learning. Congratulations,
students, for a job well done on state testing. You did a top-notch job.
We provide a strong curriculum in the regular educational setting with
additional resources as needed. Our special education department is
staffed with a team that is second to none.
We are beginning our third year of as a "Schools for Healthy
Lifestyles." We are very excited to continue gaining new resources and
training that will increase awareness among the entire school community in
regard to keeping healthy and physically fit. Teachers have already
discussed ways in which to build activities into the classroom that will provide
students short mental and physical breaks, enabling them to refocus better on
the task at hand. Learning and keeping fit can be fun. The 09-10 school
year theme is “Be All That You Can Be at CE.”
This year, we have begun a full day
Kindergarten program.
In doing so, we have staffed and furnished for two
additional classrooms.
Our Kindergarten numbers have grown tremendously!
We have also worked to update the building in the area of
lighting. The
district has been very supportive in making sure we install new
lighting in the classrooms.
We were able to complete lighting updates in all
classrooms of our south wing! Technology continues to be an area that we strive to improve.
Beginning this year, we have installed twenty-six new
computers for student and teacher use.
Many of these were due to the stimulus money that school
districts received.
We have installed a new projector and Smartboard in our Title I
classroom. Our hope
is to continue fundraising and to work with P.T.O. to install
more projectors and Smartboards in the classrooms.
This technology will engage the students in interactive
learning.
This year, we will be able to provide parents with a
way of viewing their child’s grades throughout the year.
You will be able to go access your child’s account to
view not only their progress, but also their current lunch
account. This system
is available for grades 2-5.
Accelerated Reader is the new Reading Program that
our district is using.
We are very excited about parents being able to log
onto the program from their home to see what books their
child has been reading, and how well they are testing on
these books! You are
able to see a virtual library of your child’s reading
selections, determine what new vocabulary words they are
learning as they read, and monitor reading comprehension.
It is still new to us, but please touch base with
your child’s teacher if you have questions.
At Choctaw Elementary, the students, parents, and staff have been able to
form close bonds. As a small school of 368 students, we enjoy a large
family type atmosphere. We know that parents are the first and foremost
teacher in their child's life. I appreciate the value you place on
education and your willingness to work with the CE staff members. Having
this in mind, I would like to invite all of our wonderful parents to become an
active member in the PTO. Our PTO is actively assisting teachers and
students at CE in many different ways. Your
willingness to collaborate with others in planning school events will create
fond memories for you and your child. With you, we will continue to build
a community of life long learners. Choctaw Elementary is a great
place to be!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lidia
