ATTENDANCE
Good attendance is very important for academic success and is a life-long skill. Students are expected to be in school and class each and every day. Good attendance habits learned and developed are essential for school and the world of work. Any student, who has more than three absences (in any class during a nine-week period) without proper documentation, must pass the block test in order to receive minimum credit for the class. Documentation is defined as a note from the doctor, dentist, etc. If documentation is not obtained, the absence can be excused by a call from a parent but the absence will still be counted toward administrative failure. Please see the Student Handbook for more information.
Remember to call in ALL absences the day of the absence! If the office is not notified within two days of the absence, the absence remains an unexcused absence!
CELL PHONES
The policy of the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Board of Education prohibits the possession and use of electronic devices in the school building during school hours (7:30am to 2:30pm) including but not limited to: cellular telephones, pagers, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), IPods, Walkman’s, etc.
For safety reasons, students may possess telecommunication devices before and after school. During school hours these devices may be in a student’s car or locker. All devices must be turned off if kept in the locker in order to avoid any disruption to the educational process. Continued violation of cell phone policy may result in CHS administration confiscating device and said device being held until the end of the school year.
DRESS & APPEARANCE
The student dress code is based on the premise of recognizing fashion without sacrificing decency, safety, and appropriateness. Dress and grooming which can cause or is likely to distract or disrupt the educational progress is prohibited. The following are general guidelines regarding proper dress. Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Headgear (examples: hats, caps, bandanas, stocking caps, rags, etc.) is not to be worn in the building.
- For safety and sanitation, it is mandatory that shoes be worn at all times in school; no house shoes (slippers) are allowed in school.
- Halter tops, off-the-shoulder tops, bare midriffs, tube tops, spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, mesh shirts or fishnet (unless a t-shirt is underneath), backless or partial backless garments or outer garments with the appearance of underwear are not permitted to be worn by students. Shoulder straps must be at least three fingers wide.
- Frayed, shredded, ripped, or torn garments are not to be worn by students. Normal wear and tear is accepted unless it is to the extent that causes disruption of the instructional program.
- Clothing which is too revealing or does not completely cover undergarments may not be worn, (examples: mini skirts, short shorts, low cut clothes or exposed cleavage). Cycle shorts, or any shorts or skirts, which are disruptive or inappropriate, are not to be worn. The hemline of shorts and skirts must reach the tips of the fingers when arms are held at sides.
- Apparel that reveals offensive writing, suggestive slogans or logos which pertain to beer, liquor, drugs, or tobacco is not to be worn. Items which carry connotations of immorality, vulgarity, obscenity, nudity, or promotion of violence and or gang/cult activity are not to be worn.
LUNCH-CLOSED CAMPUS
Sophomores have closed campus (restricted from leaving campus) during lunch. The food service department does a terrific job of providing a variety of food options for students and staff.

Tutorial Time |
This is an enrichment/remediation time offered each day. Students may go to the teacher of their choice for tutoring or to do make-up work, or you might be assigned Tutorial by a specific teacher or principal. This help is available daily from 7:45am to 8:06am. |
Rose State College Tutoring |
College students will tutor high school students for free. The tutoring takes place on the college campus. Call 733-7417 to set up appointment times and days. |
Choctaw H.S. National Honor Society Tutoring |
CHS honor society students earn service points for membership by volunteering to tutor other high school students. You can get a list of the students from your high school counselor or Ms. Dyer in room C-5. After you get the list, you pick a student from the list who tutors in the subject area where you need help. You then call the student at the phone number on the list and set up a tutoring time and place. |
