"A New Beginning "

Phoenix Program

The Phoenix program will focus on working with sophomore students who may be at-risk of graduating in three years. If a sophomore student has entered the high school with 3 or more failing grades, they will have the opportunity to participate in the Phoenix program. The primary goal of this program is to identify and implement strategies that will enable these students to graduate on time. Additional monitoring, tutoring, and/or special classes will be implemented in the next three years. The Grant Director will be responsible for the Phoenix students. It is our hope that the additional individual guidance and counseling will provide needed resources for these at-risk students.

Strategies for Success

Richard Tuberville

This class is designed to help students become better communicators, more understanding of others, and build self-confidence.  The curriculum used in this class is based on the Flip Flippen “Caring for Kids” program.  Students are required to give speeches several times a block.  The goal of the class is to help students be successful in school and in life.

Richard Tuberville is the instructor and has spent several days in extensive training for the course.  This year, his Strategies for Success students raved about how wonderful Mr. Tuberville was and how much the class helped them to enjoy coming to school.

Sophomore, Sara Beatty commented, “I wish I could have that class an entire year, it is the best class I have ever had in school.”
