Welcome to the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools

David Reid, Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools and thank you for visiting the Choctaw/Nicoma Park Public Schools Web Site. Whether you are a current resident of our school district or seeking to relocate within our school district, this website is designed to provide pertinent district information. Communication between our school district and our parents, guardians, and patrons is vital to the success of our students and we hope this web-site communication tool will be beneficial.

Our district is located just east of the Oklahoma City and Tinker Air force Base and encompasses approximately 60 square miles.  Our school district encompasses all of Choctaw and Nicoma Park, some eastern portions of Midwest City, some western portions of Harrah and some parts of Oklahoma City.  We truly have the best of both worlds in our community and our school district.  We are in a suburban district with plenty of room to grow yet we are only a short 10 to 15 minute drive to downtown Oklahoma City.  We are a growing and progressive district with approximately 6,000 students housed in six elementary schools, two middle schools and one 6A high school.  We are the 18th largest school district in the state and Choctaw High School is the 22nd largest high school in the state.  Again we have the best of all educational worlds.  We are a large enough district to offer every type of academic, athletic, and fine arts programs as any other large school district in the state yet our district is small enough  to educate each child as an individual. Students truly feel a caring and connected environment in our school district.  Many of our 325 teachers were students themselves in our schools. This shows the respect and admiration for our school district and community.

Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools offers an excellent Pre-K thru 12th grade educational experience.  The Choctaw Nicoma-Park School District not only has a reputation of excellence in our state but has also been recognized nationally with multiple awards.  The Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District has been recognized with the “What Parents Want” Award in the annual School Match Awards Program”. This is a survey driven National Award. Our district is only one of 22 public schools in Oklahoma to receive this prestigious award.

Choctaw High School has been designated a Gold Star High School by the Southern Region Education Board (SREB) and has been recognized by the SREB as one of the top 50 high schools in the “High Schools That Work” Network with over 1,500 high schools participating nationally. This recognition is based on an out of state observation/evaluation team spending significant time in a high school and then comparing data gathered to other high schools across the region. We also have a nationally recognized alternative school program for students at risk of dropping out of high school.  This alternative school has won the Oklahoma Medal of Excellence for being the outstanding alternative school in the state and in 2010 was recognized as one of the top three “At Risk” dropout programs in the nation by the National Dropout Prevention Center.  In addition our district’s ACT scores and annual performance on state mandated tests are routinely above the state average. The Choctaw High School senior class earned scholarships in excess of five million dollars last year to colleges and universities all across the United States.

Choctaw-Nicoma Park is a “Great Expectations” School district.  Great Expectations is a nationally recognized research based program predicated on key educational practices.  All six of the elementary schools in our district are “Great Expectations” State Model Schools.  Teachers from all over our state and region come to observe the practices of these six model schools in our district. Having all six of our elementary schools as GE Model schools is quite a prestigious accomplishment.

Our fine Arts programs and athletic programs have won numerous Conference, Regional, and State Championships. We have excellent instructional, athletic, and fine arts programs and facilities in our school district.  All of our CNP schools and facilities have been upgraded and renovated thanks to a 93 Million Dollar bond issue approved by patrons a few years ago. In addition we replaced two very old schools with two new schools, Choctaw Middle School and Nicoma Park Elementary. On the campus of Choctaw High School we have the 3,500 seat Jim McCharen Activities Center for basketball, wrestling, and volleyball.  We also recently renovated Bill Jensen Stadium with new artificial sports turf.  This beautiful 6,000 seat stadium is home to Yellowjacket football, soccer and track. Our fine arts students perform in the new “state of the art” Choctaw High School Performing Arts Center. This facility features a breathtaking lobby, dressing rooms, prop construction areas, costume storage, huge stage area, orchestra pit, and seating for over a 1,000. This beautiful building is a very versatile and functional facility for plays, band concerts, vocal music concerts, and other types of performances, pageants, and activities.  In addition most of our schools have tornado proof safe rooms to house students in case of severe weather.

Included in this website for your convenience are district attendance boundaries, information regarding immunizations, school calendars and employment information. Additionally, a link is provided to each of our nine schools which provide accurate and up to date information significant to each site.

Our District motto is “Expect Excellence”.  Our entire staff at Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools strives to deliver that educational excellence each and every day to our students.   Again welcome to Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools. We look forward to you being a part of our district.

Should you need information or have questions that are not addressed on this website, please contact the school site or the administration office for further information. On behalf of the Board of Education, we appreciate your interest in the Choctaw/Nicoma Park Public School District. We welcome you to come out and take a look at our district because it’s no secret that Choctaw-Nicoma Park School district is “The Place to Be”!

Sincerely,
David Reid
