How do I enroll my child in the school's Indian Education program?
You will need to fill out a 506 form and send the form and a copy of the CDIB or tribal card to the school or email it to snay@cnpschools.org.
What is a 506 form?
This form serves as the official record of the eligibility determination for each individual child included in the student count for the Title VI Indian Education Formula Grant program. Form available here.
Who is eligible to be in the school's Indian Education program?
If you, your child, or the student's grandparent(s) are an enrolled member of a Federally or State recognized Indian or Alaska Native tribe, then the student is eligible.
WHAT IS THE TITLE VI INDIAN EDUCATION GOVERNMENT PROGRAM?
Title VI is a federally funded program under the Office of Indian Education, Washington D.C. The primary purpose of the program is to provide educational and culturally realted services for Indian students enrolled in CNP Schools.
Title VI officer both academic and cultural programs. After-School Tutoring is available at all sites. A few schools also have tutors to help students during the school day.
Title VI also sponsors a number of cultural evens such as family reading night, story telling, craft nights, dance presentations, drum circles and more.
Title VI is a public school program. To participate, a student must have a completed506 form on file at the district office, a Tribal number, Tribal Card or CDIB.
Once your child is placed in the Title VI program and their form is considered complete, it will remain on file until your child graduates or leaves the district.
What is the Johnson O'Malley program?
The Johnson O'Malley program or J.O.M. is a federal program whose main objective is to ensure Indian children receive educational opportunities that would not otherwise be provided through the public school system. For more info see the Johnson O'Malley website.
