Department of Student Services
Welcome to Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools. As we like to say, “You’re going to love it here, everyone does.” On behalf of our district, I want to express to you how excited we are to have you be a part of our Student Services family. It always helps me when meeting new people or discussing events or situations, to find something I have in common with them. Below you will find a few details about who I am, and where our Student Services Department can assist you.
I am entering my thirty first year in education. Fifteen of those years have been spent in Choctaw-Nicoma Park. During my journey, I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, served as an elementary school counselor, an assistant principal, and a principal. My experience includes working with students and families who have students served in speech-language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, visually impaired, mild-moderate/specific learning disability, intellectual disability , emotional disability, severe profound, Autism, Other Health Impaired and Gifted and Talented. This includes professional experience as well as personal experience. I have a passion for students with special needs, and love assisting these amazing kids and their families on the educational journey.
My husband and I have two children, ages 24 and 20. We love dogs and have 2 Labrador Retrievers, Holly and Charli. I love to read, cook, adventure dine, travel, decorate, cheer on the OKC Thunder, OU Sooners, and Pittsburgh Steelers. I am an only child, so I love gathering with my husband’s siblings and my extended family that includes many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Our Student Services Department handles initial testing of students with suspected disabilities, and oversees our Special Education classes at each of our nine sites, ensuring that the teachers, students and parents have what is needed so that each student finds success. Choctaw-Nicoma Park truly has the finest professionals, who have passion for developing each student to his/her fullest potential. In addition, our department works with site counselors, SEARCH which is our gifted and talented program, Title IX, EDGE which is our virtual school, and the development of our Distance Learning Curriculum for special needs students, gifted and talented students and the social/emotional component of Distance Learning.
I am here to assist you in any way possible. If you have a student who is new to Choctaw-Nicoma Park, please give our department a call, and we can assist you in getting started with the enrollment process at your child’s school. I like to meet the students and families who are new to our district, so that I can ensure proper placement for your child’s success.
Enjoying the journey,
Kelli Hosford, Executive Director of Student Services
