Graduation Protocols

The CNP Board, district administration and CHS administration received concerns from patrons about the seating capacity at the venue graduation has been held. Several options were considered, but ultimately, the decision was made to host the graduation ceremony on Jensen Field on the campus of CHS. This allows us a much larger seating capacity for those wishing to attend.

Hosting a graduation ceremony outdoors in the month of May could present some potential challenges; therefore, guidelines have been put in to place in case weather conditions make it impossible for the event to be held at Jensen Field.

The following protocols will be used for the ceremony:

  1. CHS will host graduation on Jensen Field this year on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 7:00 PM.
  2. If it is canceled due to weather it will be pushed to Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 7:00 PM.
  3. If it is canceled due to weather on May 14th, the ceremony will be split into two ceremonies determined by last name and hosted inside the McCharen Center that evening, Tuesday, May 14th.
    1. Last Names A- M would have a ceremony from 6:00 – 7:00 PM
    2. Last Names N – Z would have a ceremony from 8:00 – 9:00 PM

The determination to move the ceremony inside the McCharen on Tuesday, May 14th will have to be determined by 2:00 PM to allow time for proper preparations.

Again, the intent is to have the graduation ceremony on Monday, May 13, 2024 on Jensen Field. This letter is to provide the protocols that will be followed should weather disrupt the event. We look forward to a wonderful graduation ceremony where everyone is able to celebrate the successes of our outstanding 2024 graduates.

With these protocols in mind, I want to share additional information about the limited parking that will be available during the ceremony on Monday, May 13th.

  • The parking lot at CHS will have reserved parking only. Each graduate will get one VIP Parking Placard. The parking lot will be opened at 4:30 PM. Doors to the stadium will not be open until 5:15 PM. There will be officers at both entrances checking for appropriate placards. Each family will get to determine how to best use the placard for their family.
  • Additional handicapped spaces will be reserved in the lower parking lot by the stadium. To get one of these spots, a valid handicapped placard will need to be on display.
  • The small parking lot north of the old main building of CHS will be open for first come first served parking.
  • At 6:15 PM any unfilled spots on the CHS campus will be opened to a first come first served capacity.
  • Choctaw Church of the Nazarene has graciously allowed patrons the opportunity to park in their parking lot and walk to the event as well. Weather and soil conditions permitting, they have also offered the use of the open field behind the church to be used for overflow parking. There will NOT be shuttle service from this location.
  • Choctaw Road Baptist Church (CRBC) has also graciously offered their parking lot as a shuttle station. CNP will provide shuttle rides to and from CRBC and Jensen Field beginning at 5:00 PM. The last shuttle bringing visitors to the ceremony will leave CRBC at 6:30 PM. Shuttle service returning patrons to their vehicles at CRBC will begin immediately after graduation ends and will run through 9:00 PM.
  • Please make sure you are following all protocols and do not bring prohibited items. You will not be allowed into the event with any prohibited items, and we will not be able to store those items. Please consider this event in relation to security similar to that of an OU, OSU, or OKC Thunder ball game.

Additional notes for consideration if attending the graduation ceremony:

  • Graduation will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.
  • We will utilize weapon detection systems and have security guards at each of the four entrances. This will require additional time to get inside the stadium. Please make plans accordingly to ensure plenty of time to get inside the stadium and be seated.
  • Additional security and police officers will be stationed throughout the stadium and campus.
  • Seating will be available in both the home and visitors’ bleachers as well as standing room areas along the fences and courtyard areas. Other than handicapped seating, there are NO reserved or saved seats – it will strictly be first come first served.
  • Additional handicapped seating for those in wheelchairs will be provided on the field near the north endzone. An additional folding chair will be available for each person sitting in a wheelchair to have a non-handicapped person sitting beside them in this area.
  • Lawn chairs and stadium seats will not be permitted. We need all available space for the number of spectators expected. Stadium seats would reduce the number of seats available. In addition, stadium seats and lawn chairs would slow down the security entrances with additional time searching/clearing each chair.
  • Umbrellas will not be allowed in the stadium.
  • The ceremony will be live streamed on the video board next to the stage at the south endzone as well as over the Internet on Yellowjackets TV.

Please note, these are preliminary plans and subject to change as information becomes more concrete as we approach graduation day.
